How do I connect a phone number to my WhatsApp account?

To use WhatsApp Business API via MyOperator, you must first register and verify your phone number. Meta requires number verification to confirm ownership and ensure compliance. Verification is done using a one-time password (OTP) sent by SMS or voice call.



✅ Step-by-Step: Register & Verify Your Phone Number


  1. Choose a number that meets WhatsApp’s requirements
  • Must not already be linked to:
    • WhatsApp App (personal)
    • WhatsApp Business App
    • Another WABA
  • Can be a mobile number or landline.
  • Toll-free numbers may not work unless they support SMS/voice.


  1. Select your OTP delivery method
  • During onboarding, WhatsApp will offer SMS or Voice Call.


  1. (Optional) Capture OTP via Voicemail in MyOperator
  • For landlines/MyOperator numbers, you can route the OTP call to voicemail.
  • Configure this in your MyOperator call flow (see tip below).


  1. Enter the OTP in the verification screen
  • Complete the registration process.
  • Once verified, your number is active for template approvals and messaging.
