How do I increase the message limit on my WhatsApp account?

Info

⚡ Quick answer: Maintain a green (high) message-quality score and complete Facebook Business Verification (FBM). Meta re-checks every 24–48 hours and automatically upgrades your phone number from Tier 1 (1,000 recipients/day) up to Tier 4 (unlimited) when both conditions stay positive.

When should I use this guide?

Open this guide right after your first campaigns go live. It shows exactly what Meta looks at, where to track your tier, and the fastest way to unlock higher limits—without triggering a downgrade.

2. Requirements for each messaging tier

Tier

Daily unique recipients

What Meta checks

1

1,000 (default)

FBM verified account

2

10,000

Quality ≥ Green for 48 h, 500 messages/day for 7 days

3

100,000

Quality ≥ Green + 5,000 messages/day for 7 days

4

Unlimited

Quality ≥ Green for 30 days

3. How does Meta automatically increase your limit?

  1. Here are the conditions required for a tier upgrade:

  • Phone number status must be “Connected” — i.e., the number is properly set up in WhatsApp Manager with an approved display name.
  • Quality rating of your messages/phone number must be “Medium” or “High” (good standing).
  • In the last 7 days, you must have initiated at least half of your current limit in unique-customer conversations.
    • For example: if your current limit is 1,000/day, you need 500 unique new conversations over the past 7 days to be eligible for an upgrade to the next tier.
  • If the above conditions are met, Meta upgrades the tier — typically within 24 hours.

  1. This process repeats: once at 10,000, to get to 100,000 you need to start 5,000+ unique conversations over 7 days (half of 10,000), and so on.

4. When will the limit NOT increase?

  • If your phone number status is not “Connected”.
  • If your phone number’s Quality Rating is not “Medium” or “High” — i.e., if quality falls below the acceptable threshold.
  • If you don’t initiate enough new unique-customer conversations over the last 7 days.
  • If you’re using message templates or content that violate the WhatsApp Business Messaging Policy.

5. Timelines, quality-score logic & downgrades

6. Best-practice checklist

  • ✔️ Segment audiences—send relevant content only.
  • ✔️ Use double opt-in for marketing templates.
  • ✔️ Monitor quality score daily in FBM.
  • ✔️ Warm up new numbers gradually (20% volume increase/day).
  • ✔️ Add fallback text for personalization tags to avoid blank messages.
