Can you generate Aadhaar Virtual ID (VID) without a registered mobile number?

Warning : You cannot generate an Aadhaar Virtual ID (VID) without linking your mobile number to your Aadhaar. UIDAI requires OTP-based authentication, and the OTP is only sent to your Aadhaar-registered mobile number.

Why a registered mobile number is mandatory

OTP verification: Every VID request (portal, app, or SMS) requires OTP authentication sent to your Aadhaar-linked mobile.
UIDAI security protocol: Without a linked mobile, UIDAI cannot verify your identity or send the VID.
SMS services: Commands like GVID <last 4 digits> or RVID <last 4 digits> work only if sent from your registered mobile number.

What to do if your mobile is not linked

Step 1: Link your mobile number

Visit a UIDAI Aadhaar Enrollment Centre or Aadhaar Seva Kendra.
Provide biometric verification (fingerprint/iris) and valid ID documents.
Once updated, it may take a few days for your Aadhaar record to reflect the new mobile number.
