What is the WhatsApp Business display-name review, and when does it apply?

WhatsApp Display-Name Review

Info

It is the mandatory Meta approval process where WhatsApp checks whether your business name (the name shown to users on WhatsApp) meets Meta’s official Display-Name Guidelines.

When should I use this guide?

Use this FAQ if you need to know:

  • Whether your current task will trigger a display-name review.
  • What to expect after approval or rejection.
  • How to avoid common rejection reasons.

1. What is the display-name review?

Every WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) phone number must have an approved display name before the number can send messages at scale.

The display name is shown to users in:

  • Profile header
  • Chat information
  • Business details

Meta reviews the display name to ensure:

  • It accurately represents the business
  • It matches your legal brand/website/public identity
  • It is not misleading
  • It follows WhatsApp’s branding compliance rules

2. When does Meta trigger a display-name review?

A review happens in the following cases:

  1. When you add a new phone number to a WABA

Every new sender requires an approved display name.

  1. When you change the display name

Any edit triggers a fresh review by Meta.

  1. When you migrate a number between BSPs

Example: if you move from another provider to MyOperator, Meta re-checks your display name.

  1. When Meta suspects a violation

If your activity, template content, or customer feedback suggests a mismatch, Meta may force a re-review.

3. How does it apply in MyOperator?

During initial WhatsApp onboarding

When you connect your phone number in MyOperator’s dashboard, MyOperator sends the display name to Meta and the review begins.

When adding additional phone numbers

Each phone number under your WABA in MyOperator requires:

  • Display name
  • Business verification
  • Number registration

Meta reviews the display name before activation.

When you request a display-name change inside MyOperator

If you modify:

  • Brand name
  • Business identity
  • Spelling
  • Format

MyOperator sends a new review request to Meta.

When you upgrade tiers or add a Verified Business Badge

Meta may trigger a secondary review to validate brand consistency.

4. What Meta checks during display-name review

Allowed:

  1. Business legal name
  2. Store name
  3. Recognised brand name
  4. Product brand owned by you
  5. Service name directly linked to your business

Not allowed:

  • Generic names ("Customer Service", "Clothing Store")
  • Names of celebrities/locations not owned by you
  • Misspelt variations of popular brands
  • Using "WhatsApp", "Meta", or trademarked names
  • Offensive or misleading names

5. How long does display-name approval take?

  • Usually up to 60 minutes
  • Can take up to 24 hours if manual review is needed
  • In restricted industries, may take 1–2 days
